"Stopping the War"

Thich Nhat Hanh grew up in war-torn Vietnam and is a respected peace activist. He advises: "Peace is not simply the absence of violence; it is the cultivation of understanding, insight and compassion, combined with action. When we are mindful and cultivate compassion in our daily lives, we diminish violence in the world." His book teaches dozens of meditation techniques for developing the calm and courageous energy we need for waging peace in such difficult times.

Jack Kornfield is an American meditation teacher who writes about stopping the war we wage against ourselves - the inner war. He writes: "The wars between peoples are a reflection of our inner conflict and fear, our struggles to change from what we are already into someone we hope will be better. When we let go of that inner battle, we can cultivate a new way of relating to life and open our hearts to things as they are. This is the beginning and end of every spiritual practice." Kornfield teaches techniques for stopping war in his book, A Path With Heart.
